ever, the father and  the son  adopted different methods. Gun

tried to contain the waters within dikes, but he did not succeed.

Then Yu succeeded to the labors  commenced  by  his father.

Besides building dikes as Gun had done, he cut  channels and

built projects  to drain the waters away to  the sea. He finally

succeeded in  pacifying the flood.
